| | | My Bat! OK, I am NOT expecting an ID, but I HAD to post this here!
My camera is kinda slow, you click and it delays. SO... I went out to see my bat tonight, and whilst standing in the middle of the grassy area he flies about (2 seconds from my back door) I looked up with the cam and snapped this!
I DID have to tinker with it cos you couldn't see him properly cos my cam is a cheap £90 thing, but meet Alfredo!
*He looks like a boy*
I am SO in love with him and so pleased with the fact that he was swooping ALL around me while I stood and watched. No more than 2 feet away!
my fear of bats has been demolished and I am now looking for bat events near me as I missed the one three weeks ago.
OK, I will go now cos I am babbling, but I am SO excited! He is still out there. |

| | | Re: My Bat! nice did a good job to get it at all given how quick they are - I would have said that hes a pipistrelle based on height of flight and habitat.
do you have a bat detector btw , if you had one of these you could listen to alfredo "talk" to you too

Thank you!
I swear he was coming SO close and slowing down!
Is it at all possible to hear some sonar they make? I hear tiny squeaks and that is when I know he is there. Just thought I would check!
I would LOVE a bat detector dearly, but as I am single parent and on benifits, I won't be able to afford one for some time unless I find a cheap second hand one.
Funny really, till I went to Chester zoo, I would have been in the house screaming at the sight of him!
Upstairs neighbour is terrified, but I think it's great. She hears noises in the attic and I am sure they are bats. Must go to the council and warn them actually, think she may be getting someone in to look and their roosts are protected aren't they?
Sorry to babble, but I am newly converted and need to vent lol http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BAT-DETECTOR-B...QQcmdZViewItem
Found one on ebay, if I had £60 I'd have that in seconds.
Anyone wanna get it me and send it after I pay em back?
Worth a try! |

Sorry to babble, but I am newly converted and need to vent lol | if you contact your local bat group , via the website i mentioned above , or your local wildlife trust, you might be able to go on a bat walk at least - i'd be supprised if your neighbour is hearing bats as they are generally pretty quiet when roosting, and i would suspect that alfredo and freinds are probably roosting behind the cladding as this is one of their favorite spots

| | | Re: My Bat! I'll take a look at that site tomorrow morning, I am posting in here between sitting out watching Alfredo lol. I am going to go to the Rising Sun country park and see if they have more bat walks going on, I missed the last one drattit. All I have to do now is cure my irrational fear of moths and all is fine!
NO idea what is in her roof then! though I suspected birds. She says it is too loud for birds, but we have spuggies nest in the roof, so could be them!
here's hoping the council don't disturb any bats when they storm in to set the neighbour's mind at rest!
And thanks for the heads up on the price ticket! My bf now has an easy b'day present for me, he is buying me a bat detector! |
