| | animal unknown? I desperatley want to know what animal i saw the other night as it's really puzzling me. i was woken up by the sound of a really loud clicking which i at first thought was in the house i then realised it was coming from outside. looking out of the window i could hear these really loud fast clicks thats the only way i can describe them. then two animals ran across the road makind the clicking noise. they were about as big as a fox but seemed to have much shorter legs long bushey tails not sure on the colour as the orange street lamp was on them. i'm annoyed with my self as i did'nt have my glasses on so didin't get a good look also they ran quite quick they were also nimble as they scaled a 6ft fence. i've never heard a noise like it and people laugh when i say it sounded like a racoon which i know is ridiculous i can only assume it was a fox but it really didn't look like one i also went on a web site and listened to loads of foxs call but it was none of them. please help! |

The mistery animals sound like Badgers to me! They make a wide range of sounds from barks to screams to wickering like clicks!

By the way Lottie, where are you located? It is possible they could be Pine Martins you know! All the mustelids (weasel family) can make wickering clicky type calls! |

Foxes do click when annoyed with each other. From your description I'd think that they were two foxcubs that were not adult height.
Watch this video where I've highlighted some of the sounds made by the foxes in my garden.

EDIT: Alan, I haven't yet met a badger with a thick brush

EDIT: Alan, I haven't yet met a badger with a thick brush | I agree probably is foxes, but you never know! As far as bushy tailed Badgers go, I've seen a few! Especially youngsters with their bottle-brush spikey tails! |
