| | | Red Deer stag roaring! We went for a walk today, and started hearing a familiar, but until now never heard in the flesh as it were, noise! Even my 8 year old son was started by it initially. About half a mile away, and on the route of our walk, is a commercial deer farm. The resident stag was making his presence known and the noise echoed down the valley towards us.
When we went up the hill on the other side, there was a gateway giving an excellent view straight across to the opposite hillside, where he stood in all his glory, tossing his head back and bellowing at anyone within earshot. Of course he is very unlikley to get an answer, as even in the most rural parts of Cornwall, red deer are not common. He was a magnificent sight, and the noise we have grown so familiar with on Autumnwatch and the like, was even more inpressive at first hand.
Such a pity he was the domestic variety though!

| | | Re: Red Deer stag roaring! Domestic or not its something your 8 year old son wont forget, and now youv'e heard it ''in the flesh'' youll probably understand why us deer lovers get up and out early just to get the chance to hear it.
If your realy lucky, to hear it in the pitch dark close by in a wood is something that stays with you forever.
Well done, nice story.
Regards
Rob
