| | | How can I tell .... Following on from the over wintering hedgehog question... is there any way to tell how big a 600g hedgie looks without catching one.
I have one that looks quite small - he fits on a side plate ( don't worry I'm not eating them!!!) but he does look quite fat.
I'd rather not catch him if I don't have to as I don't want to stress him out - he's fast as well so I probably wouldn't be able to!!
Thanks

However, knowing the weight is the only way of giving correct advice. Weighing it quickly on kitchen scales (wear gloves) will not stress it out too much, it will do it no harm.
If the hedgehog is out in daylight there could well be a problem but if you are seeing your hog at night it would probably be best to just put food out every night.
Hedgehogs are still out & about every night, it is nowhere near cold enough for them to go into their deeper sleep yet.
