| | Surely the're killing hedgehogs !! People including belvior castle, the ancaster fishing pond and woody's pub.. are stacking up their bon fire night piles.
I am amazed they're all doing it, in the country, big piles of logs and pallets and branches etc etc which are perfect for the hedghogs to find and sleep under.
Surely there's a law which requires them to gate around these piles of wood to stop hedghogs getting prematurely crimated !!
Can i report them ??? |

| Great advice. If only everybody with pre-built bonfire stacks heeded this advice.
I hate this time of year with the thought of a lot of wildlife (not just hoggies) sheltering in those bonfire stacks |

| | | Re: Surely the're killing hedgehogs !! Contacted both. Need to write to belvior castle - think they just want something to laugh at.
The Ancaster place will 'pass on my concerns for hedgehogs'.
Not holding my breath for either.
Cannot belive there is no law for precaution.. when i was at school years ago, our headmaster had the caretaker run chicken wire round the small area. |

| | | Re: Surely the're killing hedgehogs !! It is just horrible to hear that, bonfire night is in another 2 weeks or so.
These poor creatures have suffered enough, they were put on the endangered list last September, and even if they were not declining, which they are,- it is still not right.
They could easily fence the bonfire off, or not build it just yet.
I hope they actualy do something, but I very much think they wont.

| | | Re: Surely the're killing hedgehogs !! I agree that they need to gain a higher level of protection there are quite afew species in the UK that have little or no protection, which could really do with it. Although the hedgehog has shown some local population declines it is by no means an endangered species. |

| | | Re: Surely the're killing hedgehogs !! LMAO. Sorry, Dan, just my black sense of humour. At least I didn't make a crack about covering them in clay or putting a few jacket potatoes in there with them.
I am as concerned about the poor little hedgepigs as you are really.
You may get a better response from the organisers if you get your local RSPCA or council department which deals with cruelty to animals to contact them and suggest that they rebuild the wood pile on the day.
