| | I Need Help! About A Mouse! Hi i got home and my dad told me he had found amouse which my cat had brought in... it has a full coat of fur... and i live in the countryside so i am guessing its a fieldmouse..... is this mouse hazardous in any way? because i read on the net something about hantavirus or something.... am i at any risk of this. (i get paranoid about viruses and diseases) i currently have the mouse in a cardboard box i have gave it cheese and cow milk.... as it's 10:47pm at night.... i also gave it some straw to make it feel more at home.... it seem's like it's livening up anyway but is this the right course of action for the mouse? and will i be able to keep it i am thinking of buying a cage for it... and treating it like the average household mouse is this acceptable? and ok... once again is this hazardous? |

| | | Re: I Need Help! About A Mouse! hi and welcome to wab,
i shouldnt think theres anything hazardous about this mouse,if its livening up and seems well it would be best to release it back into the wild,it would be unfare on it to keep it in a cage,

| | | Re: I Need Help! About A Mouse! Absolutely nothing hazardous about the mouse, but the cheese is a different story - shouldn't have too much of it. Best to give it water and some raw fruit, veg, seeds or nuts, and if it is eating well it is fit to be released - somewhere moggy can't grab it |

| | | Re: I Need Help! About A Mouse! If, as you say, the mouse is doing well - then please release it as soon as you think it's recovered. It is the best thing you can do. To keep it in a cage would be unnecessary and unfair. I have cats and sometimes they bring in a live mouse; we do what you have done, keep it safe, warm and cosy, let it recover from the shock and in a little while release it back into the garden.
Welcome to WAB by the way! 'Hope you stick around and browse a while, there is plenty to look at, and lots of knowledgeable folk to help you out if need be

| | | Re: I Need Help! About A Mouse! A word of warning despite the fact they can give you a nasty little bite, be cautions wild mice do carry disease, make sure you wash you hands or wear gloves after cleaning it out avoid its urine and droppings and try not to handle it, as others have said release it as soon as possible. |
