| | | Water vole Arvicola amphibius Another beautiful Saturday in Essex so we went to the RSPB Reserve at Rainham Marshes. I saw my first ever water vole!!!
It seems to have a problem with one of its eyes.
It looks much cloudier than the other one. |

| | | Re: Water vole Arvicola amphibius Lovely shots and pleased you saw one. The injuries could have been caused in a number of ways, but qute often any damage especially around the face is as a result of squabbles during the mating season. Hope it will be OK.

| | | Re: Water vole Arvicola amphibius good shots- Rainham apparently has the biggest population in the country; at least that's what they claim! |

Shame on me .... Rainham Marshes is just down the road and I still haven't visited .... well, not since it has been designated as a RSPB reserve.
I normally watch Water Voles at Cromford Canal in Derbyshire when I am travelling to Manchester so I must make an effort to see the local population.
I undertstand that there is a Wryneck at Rainham Marshes at the moment too.

| | | Re: Water vole Arvicola amphibius heh, I was there myself last Sunday and saw 3 water voles at once on and near the floating platform. And then a grass snake swam by! I was rather happy |
