| | | Daytime bat Hi there,
I was sat by a small pool yesterday watching and photographing Southern Hawker dragonflies (rare in Scotland) when what at first I thought was a bird swooped down to the pool, touched the surface as though taking a drink, before circling overhead as though catching insects. I quickly realised that the bird was in fact a bat and was mesmerised as it repeated the performance several times. It suddenly dawned on me that I might get a photo but as always in these cases as soon as I picked up the camera it flew off back the way it had come. I have seen Pipistrelles many times at dusk but this bat seemed bigger plus the time was approx. 1.30pm on a bright day. Looking in my mammal books could this have been a Daubentons Bat? The pool is in Argyll not too many miles from Glencoe. It certainly made the day!
Regards,
Nick. |
