My First Otter

On my trip to wales last week, the undoubted highlight of many, was these views of a wild otter,i was told by a local reserve manager to consider myself very fortunate and indeed i do as this was the first morning and i was not to see it again that week









He told me that in the seven years he had worked there he could count on one hand the times he had seen one and he sounded genuinely surprised. I would also like to offer the picture i took the following day,whilst not an Otter,still my first ever sighting of what looks like a Mink on the same stretch of river





Well two firsts in two days,how could things get any better

Nice pictures too. You are very lucky to see one let alone both.

There is a belief that otters will kill/evict mink from their territories, but your sightings seem to refute that theory.

Fabulous! I've never ever seen a wild otter.

Did you tell the reserve manager about the mink? It's vital to report mink (and otter) sightings to the local wildlife trust.

Otter can be more than double the size of the mink - otter head/body length: 60 - 120 cm; tail 40 - 45 cm. Mink head/body 42 cm; tail 18 cm (male).

Thats brilliant and also getting some shots aswell is great.

I've been searching the River Camel for Otters, at the moment no luck but have seen signs of Otter activity.
