| | | re: id baby deer unfortunatly it was picked up by some kids in the berkshire area, it is not injured and was probably just sleeping while the mum was grazing. once he is ready he will be released back to the same area, an id would help us to wean him properly on to the correct food and how he should be housed as he grows. |

I'm sure they meant well.

| | | re: id baby deer i cant remember i didnt think to take a picture of his bum, im back at work on monday so can check then, also if it helps his feet are hairy like a a horse feathers and he has long hair around his neck like a mane. i have had a look on the net at some other pics and i am 90% sure he is a Red Deer as the sika fawn picks show much paler coat colour and smaller ears. his ears are huge like a moose. |

| | | Re: id baby deer Hi Eownk,
Are there Red Deer in Berkshire? If there isn't anything wrong with this youngster I would have tried to put it back out, as long as you know the exact location. We have done it with 2 roe kids this year, i know it is risky but can work. what you have to do to get rid of human smell is wearing gloves take the deer to the exact spot or very near to where it was picked up, using tufts of grass and mud if necessary rub the fawn from head to foot with the mud and grass and leave him. It is beat to do this at dusk, the mother won,t be far away, I fear the longer you leave it you won,t be able to do it.
If you do manage to hand rear it you would have to think about soft releasing it back to the area from where it came from and not just let it go without support feeding. Sorry if I sound bossy, just talking from experience, hope this may be of some help |

Going on the decription of the tail I would still say Red, but a back-end pic would help. |

Going by the pics from eowynk i would say it's a Red Deer, if it had a tail it would be a Fallow Deer but none of the pics show the back end |
