I would say the tail is about 1/3 the body length .. If it helps They are in a bank nowhere near a field.. I think they are "industrial estate voles" as I work in the middle of a large industrial estate .....The rate They are eating the "bait" they are going to be the biggest wotsits in Devon
Thank you

| | | Re: ID On this wee beastie please Great pics there Peter, i`ve tried photographing Voles and they never seem to stay still, and even less so in spots where you can get a clear shot
As Gill says, a pic showing the tail would confirm ID, but i`d hazard a guess that theyre Bank Voles given your description of where you found them, they certainly look to have reddish brown coats, whereas Field Voles tend to be a bit greyer...

| | | Re: ID On this wee beastie please It is a Bank Vole, no need to see the tail, the two have distinctively different coloured coats, as mark says. Bank Voles are reddish brown with grey flanks, Field Voles have no reddish brown and are a plain brown/pale brown and grey. Also another little tip for IDing the two is the ears of the Field Vole ears are less prominent and are mostly coverd by fur.
