Very pale example, possibly due to high bone content in the animals diet..
Very fresh example, showing "slimy" appearance - this soon dries out and is an indicator that the dropping is recent.
Feeding on berries, high seed content...
Example showing the fur content, most often encountered in Fox scat...

| | | Re: Tracks and signs images needed. Various Badger signs reposted...
Typical sett entrance, usually oval or shaped like a "D" on its flat side.Usual signs of activity include bedding and fresh earth outside the entrance, and sometimes prints and Badger hairs. Badger print. 4 forward facing "toes" - resembles a loosely closed fist ("palm" and 4 "knuckles" ). Badger feeding area - heavily disturbed ground due to digging, individual snout marks.
Trapped Badger hairs in barbed wire - to check whether any hairs are from a Badger, roll them between your fingers, Badger hairs do not have the usual round cross section and will feel "flat" when you roll them.
2 examples of Badger paths. Usually well worn and often have a "greasy" appearance due to the low slung body rubbing against the ground transferring oil from the fur.

They usually disappear into the ivy underneath our hedge where there isn't any bare earth. I'll try laying some soil in strategic places around the food bowl and see if I can get some prints. It won't be before Tuesday though as it's raining now and I'm out tomorrow night.

Dave P. | I`ll try and sort something similar with our hogs tomorrow. I`m also going to make some footprint traps for the Woodmice in the garden when I get the chance.

| | | Re: Tracks and signs images needed. I've added a few image boxes and text boxes for each of the mammals so we can add info on footprints, tracks and signs, and droppings
I can then use the above to create database driven pages that put it all together like this draft: http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/list/mammals/tracks
As more info is added to each of the species the above page will automatically build up more content
