Cannock Chase Bats

I was out on Cannock Chase the other night looking for Nightjars (heard loads, saw none)

Walking back to the car, I was treated to bats flying over my head. Their flightpath always followed the path that I was walking. Not sure if that's normal, I guess they wouldn't be attracted by my torch.

Could anyone tell me what species of bats are found in the area?

At least Brown Long-eared, Pipistrelle, Noctule, Leisler's, Whiskered and Brandt's.

If you were walikng along a ride, the the bats would follow that whether you were there or not.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it was just too dark to pick out any characteristics.

I was also lucky enough to get a Fallow Deer cross the path about 50 yards in front of me.


Going back there this weekend to try for nightjars again.
