| | | Soprano Pipistrelle? Had the bat detector in a new area for me at the weekend and picked up mostly Pipistrelle bats, but the sounds where deeper and louder at around 55 on the detector. Are these likely to be the Soprano variety? |

So yes, I reckon you are right.

| | | Re: Soprano Pipistrelle? The other possibility is that they were Common Pipistrelles shifting their echolocation frequency upwards, which they can do if they feel like it! Was it raining?

| | | Re: Soprano Pipistrelle? No it wasn't raining, it was lovely weather. Also had the odd bat that produced louder sounds around 45, which led me to believe that the others where Soprano's |

| | | Re: Soprano Pipistrelle? Soprano and Common Pips will use the same area at the same time, so you may have both... This is an image of a recording showing the two species, echolocating at 45 and 55... |

| | | Re: Soprano Pipistrelle? It also could depend on what sort of vegetation was around at the time. I have been near heavy vegetation and it gave the impression of 55 pips becasue the echolocation was distorted. If it was a pretty open area, I'd probably say they were 55 pips. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
