| | | Watching woodmice on cam After watching woodmice on other peoples cams I decided to make a feeding station with cams so I can watch them live.
In the first picture you can see the setup I have made to feed them.
On the front of this box goes the cam with 4 white leds.
Here are a few links to some short video clips of the mouse feeding inside the box http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...25094363851384 http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...27203854548590
they will take a few seconds to start but shows you what can be done with a simple setup. |

I've considered making a mouse viewing box to go against the patio doors. Then hopefully I'll be able to watch the little critters from the comfort of the room. Hope to get round to it one day |

| | | Re: Watching woodmice on cam I like that Ron, well done. They're interesting little creatures and must make good viewing.
I normally find the odd dead Wood Mouse on our patio - the victim of a local cat (usually one of our own cats I suspect ) but yesterday I had a face to face encounter with a live one. It was feeding below our bird feeders and allowed me to get quite close. I uploaded a couple of shots last night; http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...age-10740.html http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ga...age-10741.html
cute little things aren't they?!

| | | Re: Watching woodmice on cam great shots.
Was the camera easy to set up - is set off by movement? can this be set up with a web cam - ta muchly.
I've been feeding wood mice for ages (the last two years I could barely attract birds to my garden - but the wood mice have always been happy to eat the feed) and have even had then out in day light, but would love to see how much activity I am generating from them - I've a feeling that I'm supporting quite a population, and need to be careful that I keep up adequate resources for them through winter.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Watching woodmice on cam No they are not to hard to setup. The cams I use are board cameras whitch I buy off ebay. These cams can be focused down to a few inches and are ideal for this job. if you go to http://uk.geocities.com/brett.oliver...s/Shematic.gif it will show you there how it is wired up in a nest box. If you use it in the daytime you will not need to use any lights but if you want to veiw them at night you will need to wire some white leds or some infra red leds. The cams are wired to the computer though a capture card and with I-Cature software running all movement in front of cam will be recorded on the computer. Which ever ones you use it dosent seem to bother the mice.If you need more info let me know and I will try to help. |
