Aquatic Deer

Now this is a tad unusual.

Saw on last night’s local news and read on BBC website of an unusual site in Leeds city centre. A roe deer was fished out of the Leeds to Liverpool canal on Sunday. The deer suffered leg injuries, but is generally ok and now being temporally cared for at a dog care centre.

I was in Leeds town centre on Sunday near the site the animal was rescued from, but don’t recall seeing an aquatic deer, although in the ‘merry’ state I was in if I had seen it I may have thought it was a normal occurrence.

Perhaps it had forgotten it was a Roe Deer and thought it was a Chinese WATER Deer...........ok i'll get my coat

Canals and steep sided rivers can be a bit of a death trap for deer (and other large mammals, I imagine). Don't know of any statistics, but I've certainly heard of deer drowning in canals before.

about an hour ago I was having a brew out the back of our office. there is a partly canalised stretch of river and as I sat there a muntjac came along the path on the far side of the river (about 2m from me) hopped into the river to get round an obstacle swam round it and back on the bank and on it's merry way.
