| | | Re: Day flying bat Often after hibernation and before they give birth, bats will fly by day to stock up on their reserves, its also common during warm spells in winter. Bats also occasionally hunt in the summer if the weather is poor and they arnt getting enough hunting in during the night. So although not common bat behaviour certainally not rare. |

| | | Re: Day flying bat funnily enough we had one last week and the week before, it was quite cold and didnt seem to be anything for them to feed on. Glad it doesnt seem to be unusual as all the people here had never seen it before. |

| | | Re: Day flying bat The only bat I've ever seen in the daytime, catching insects over a pond in bright sunshine, I was told was a Daubenton's bat.
Can all varieties be seen during the day under the right circumstances?
There are certainly more insects around for the time of year here.

| | | Re: Day flying bat When we were in Greece there were bats swooping over the swimming pool, to everyone's astonishment . It looked like they were gathering water from the pool. It was in about 40%

| | | Re: Day flying bat I've just been watching a bat flying about during the same circuits of the garden amongst the trees as they do when we watch them in the evening, not seen them for a couple of days but there's been such heavy showers at their usual time could this be the reason, I took a picture but couldn't use the zoom as the bat was so quick I couldn't find it, or if I did by the time I clicked it had gone, so believe me the fly you can see in the pic is in fact a bat, pippistrelle I think | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
