| | | Field Mouse Hi, we have had field or house mice (about 2" long) in the house for a few weeks. They were after the dog biscuits. When we moved the biscuits they moved around the walls and got into the kitchen. Caused quite a mess in the cupboards. I set some humane traps and caught a couple. An adult male and a female about half the size (looked like a baby one - very agile). We have just taken them a couple of miles away and loosed them in a field. Is this the best course of action? Would it have been kinder to find a barn?
If there are any more babies is it okay to loose them on their own? I'd appreciate some advice.
Thanks, K. |

| | | Re: Field Mouse When i caught the mice in my house i put them as near the farmers barn as i could get. But they will find the best place for themselves im sure. If you catch babies, which you might not im afraid you'l just have to put them out too otherwise they will start to breed quickly.
Dont feel too bad. You are giving them a chance i guess. Many would just kill them rather than put them out as they feel it is kinder but i try and give them a chance by finding a sheltered area. |

| | | Re: Field Mouse Hi kaysla and welcome to WAB. We have lots of mice around us and some rats. It was good of you to catch them humanely. I usually release them some way from the house and all seem OK.

| | | Re: Field Mouse Hi Kaysla,
Are you sure they are field mice? Can you post any pics of them for id.
They should be fine in a field, they will find their own way.
We have wood mice around our garden, they are so cute. I sit in the dinning room watching them eat the bird seed. |

I've uploaded a mouse photo. Just caught another two babies. This is a photo of one coming out of the trap. I have to open the trap in a portable hamster cage. The are very fast, and they can jump extremely high!! I Could only get a photo of its head.
We let them go in the same place as the other two. There are straw bales around and they immediately went into them. They should be safe. We left some hamster food for them too.
Felt sad, but they couldn't stay in the house.
