| | | Spotting wild animals from train trips! Hi, on my regular journeys from bognor to Horsham to see my girlfriend, i travel through the heartland of the West sussex countryside and see a wide variety of animals such as foxes, deer, rabbits (most common), badgers (rarely but i have seen them) swans and other birds.
I have taken pics of rabbits and swans and almost got close to taking a pic of the fox but it was too quick hehe! I love this challenge! I have a Kodak digital camera and take it with me everytime i go, i go today and hopefully i will get more shots as i catch the 8am train today
My dream is to catch a fox on film or even a badger or deer but they are shy creatures and i respect that as not many would stick around when a 60mph train is zooming by, the rabbits go towards the train which i find odd but oh well hehe. |

| | | Re: Spotting wild animals from train trips! It's so refreshingly reassuring to here of a young man like yourself taking in so much of the wildlife on your journeys. So manys times on a train I have witnessed wildlife, even if it only a glimpse of a bird disappearing into a tree when the train pulls into a station. Most people today are either, asleep, reading the depressing articles in a newspaper, plugged into their ipods, or worst of all talking loudly on their mobiles for all to hear.
Keep up spotting from the train, enjoy your journeys to your girlfriends house and may I suggest keeping some sort of journal because you never know when information like that may become useful in survey work. Also, it's diaries that have been use to writers,if you like writing that is, with info that you can use when constructing a story. Have a good day.ww |

| | | Re: Spotting wild animals from train trips! I have got to take a train from London to Amersham this morning, so shall keep my eyes open. Last time I was on that line I saw a muntjac which didn't seem to be at all bothered by the train passing a couple of feet from it. |

| | | Re: Spotting wild animals from train trips! Pay particular attention to the area around your own station there are often small ponds and patches of cover that could be used by foxes. In a disused area of the Bristol Temple Meads junction there was a vixen and her cubs sunning under some budlia and weeds in the middle of a huge expanse of concrete less than 100 yds. from the busy platforms
keep up the interest

The british wildlife centre at lingfield, probably isnt far from your girlfreind's place. This offers super opportunities for photographing foxes, deer, (see pictures below) and possibly badger ( although the latter has been asleep the times I've been there.

Its cloudy at the moment but hopefully it will be sunny like the weather said for today, but as they say, never totally trust the weather. I was talking to Mark43 yesterday and he said he got rain when it was sunny down here! and we dont live that far apart, poor him!
I will post any pics i take that are worthy, i will try my best, see you all later!
