Water voles

Only just seen this thread. aestarte, hope you made some progress there, and the voles were safe. It is possible to poison rats and leave water voles safe, but the person laying the poison really has to know what they're doing and I'd only recommend it as a last resort, eg when rats are driving out the voles. Best practice includes laying the poison well away from the water, and using wax blocks which the voles won't touch. I think there's advice about it on the Scottish Water Vole Project website.

I've just come from my local supermarket car park which is next to a stream - popped down the bank and took a look under the bridge, and there's a water vole latrine and a feeding station. It's great to see.
