| | Re: Wolf Reintroduction yes or no We MUST reintroduce wolves to Britain. It will benefit for humans and the environment, as wolves are able and can help us manage the environment. We would look after he forest, and I really want to see them roaming free around where I live.
The problem is, sheep and cattle have more rights than wolves, and if one animal which is part of livestock is eaten, people will want to make the wolves extinct once more.
First of all, we must get Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs out of schools which are polluting pre school childrens minds. Secondly, we must prepare people for the return of our old allies. We should educate everyone about wolves and what to do if they end up coming face to face with one. We have a large number of deer in the highlands which are becoming a problem. But, if we reintroduce wolves, we would need to reintroduce black bears, as part of a whole predator reintroduction program. Plus, if cattle DO get eaten, then there would be less methane in the air, so wolves could help us slow down Global Warming. Aaaaanyways, thanks for reading and I hope this gets through to people who are part of the wolf reintroduction program. |

| | | Re: Wolf Reintroduction yes or no I presume you meant Brown Bear as this was the species in British forests + still in many European countries. Black Bears are a widespread North American species. |

| | | Re: Wolf Reintroduction yes or no Agree with Rob D, the highlands of Scotland is a huge area, which is as sparsely populated as almost anywhere else in Western Europe.
Italy is a very good comparison - very similar in size and population density to the UK. How can they support millions of wild boar, hundreds of wolves and bears yet here we dismiss the idea as unthinkable?
Our attitude is a far more significant barrier than any ecological argument. Just look at the fuss over wild boar and beavers. |

| | | Re: Wolf Reintroduction yes or no I would quite happily consider encouraging farmers on Welsh upland pastures to change livestocking to accommodate wolves. It would mean adopting similar grazing to the Pyrenees, where ponies and goats (who don't have the same attrition rates from wolf as sheep) is predominant. I'm not sure however, whether the consumers in the UK would readily adapt to eating horse meat and spending twice as much cash on quality cheeses as do the French. |

| | | Re: Wolf Reintroduction yes or no Dear Midnight Fox. Yes they would probably have to cull the wolves, but they cull the deer now, and with wolves eating the deer, that is simply culling one animal instead of another.
Although, the dog family as a whole are very good at controlling their own populations. Normally only the dominant bitch breeds. Perhaps they wouldn't need to be culled or at least not that often. |

| | | Re: Wolf Reintroduction yes or no just a thought but will the fox leave alone capers and ground nesting birds?and just eat deer there could well be conflict with the conservation of other endangered animals. As much as I like wolves I think that the environment has evolved so much in the time that wolves have been gone that to reintroduce another apex predator would cause more problems that it would solve.
Cowgirl with thought to your analogy about dresses I like your thinking.

| | | Re: Wolf Reintroduction yes or no Release dogs, would that be simpler lol? if we had a feral dog population in the highlands people probably wouldnt be as worried hearing britain has wild dogs now rather than wild wolves.
No im not serious, but it was a thought. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
