Our cats brought home a brown rat last year, it was very young when it arrived, small too.

Every night it collected all the dried cat food storing what it couldn't eat under the fridge for emergencies.
When I finally caught it it was half the size of the lazy feline who, introduced it to both the house, and cat-food (that had undoubtedly contributed to its large size fresh breath and velvet sleek coat).

It was so cute that my wife cried when I broke its neck.

Perhaps I should have taken it into the town where there are many more of them ? ? ?

But that's 'conceding defeat' ---- IF we ( or some of us & hopefully most of us) beleive that the Red has a perfect right to not only survive but also prosper & regain original terretory....

Imagine if the Great Tit was not native, & had been brought over from North America 90+ years ago,escaped from Private Aviaries & was now decimating all the populations of Blue, Coal, Crested etc. etc. Tit populations? I don't see that that scenario would be any more 'right' than this one.

I understand if the following could be misinterpreted,BUT this arguement that it's a "fight of the strongest & fittest" sounds to me uneasy & a teeny-bit "Master-Race".
