| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? mmm stripee,
If we hear anything in the morning, we will have to check fascia, as where the noise SEEMS to be, is where it joins next door and there may be a small gap...will have to look with binoculars as we do not have a ladder, or anyone here able to climb up. Squirrel cannot go far, as we are 'converted' and there are no gnawings into attic room - we have checked!

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? Starlings? We had them once in the eaves above the bathroom. Raucous birds, very scratchy. Having said that, anything when on the roof or in a (relatively) cavernous area sounds amplified, especially at the usual
"quiet" times.. And rats can sound like they're wearing hobnail boots when they get going!
P.S. Would love to have bats....in my belfry, bat box or eaves! They are around the local area but have not chosen to grace us personally with their residence.... yet.

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? We've had house mice on and off for years. They seem to arrive, cause a commotion for a while and then decide to push off somewhere-probably into next door's roof space.

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? ...The mystery continues.
We heared the same clattering, gnawing, noises this again this morning around 7- 8am, and more noises around dusk, so it was not the pigeon in chimney making the racket, trying to climb out yesterday.
We have been on the alert all day and no sign of any Starlings.
We have spoken with neighbours, but no-one has seen any Bats lately.
We have re-checked attic room and no sign of any droppings or gnawing damage. But something IS under roof tiles in felt & battening gap/perimeter of attic room - or even under attic floor void
So... that leaves Squirrels or a Rat, we have looked as best we can, at the eaves/fascias and can see no damage or gap for entry but SOMETHING is getting in somehow - maybe along the terrace. The lady living opposite, is going to keep watch for us, hopefully she may see something, soon!
...Unless the cute little field Mice have found a new way in, (hole in meter box is still blocked) gone Bionic and are building fortifications up there! We can set the humane traps again but when they came before, we did not hear them at all, only knew they were about when we saw the droppings.
Thankyou to everyone who is taking the time to advise and for interesting accounts of similar experiences.
...Wild Woman, maybe they/it will just disappear like your visitors
...Duchess, great if it was Bats! at least they wont go for our wiring
I refuse to think about Rats - too horrid
All is quiet right now, who know what tomorrow may bring?

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? If your mother doesn't like the idea of bats perhaps she'll be more comfirtable with the old english term of flitter-mouse. Always thought that sounded kind of cute and much more descriptive than bat. Kind of close to the german word fledermaus... but nicer! |

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? It does sound to me like mice. They can get through the smallest of spaces and if you've had them before....
I had one in my loft two years ago. Every morning at around 4am it scuttled across the loft above my bedroom (sounded more like a rhino than a mouse). It would then come down through the airing cupboard and under the door where it seemed to have a taste for one corner of carpet.
The body clock this thing had was incredible. Far more reliable than my alarm clock. |

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? Yep, it may well be Return of the Wood Mice They must have found another entry so I will blame adjoining neighbours and start with humane traps again.
Thanks to all for input

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? Monday morning.
Last night, heared gnawing about 12.45am and 7-8am as usual.
Just had halls adjoining neighbours on door, saying the racket has now woken them up as well!
He said it sounded like claws scratching across floorboards, so either gnawing or he said there were tiny gaps for Bats, who might then be making scratchy noises finding roosting place at least they wouldn't gnaw our wiring! - confirmation of this, anyone?
They both thought it sounded too loud for mice, lady said she thought it could be squirrel/s as two were seen cavorting on their shed roof, in sunshine the other day
We are all on watch but no-one has seen any squirrels on our house roofs by day or Bats by dusk - what time do Bats usually get up/go to sleep, this time of year?...What to do next?
Thanks for reading this, Cathyh. |

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? ...Reading my own last post, I realise that as we cannot see a large enough gap for Squirrel entry, but various possible gaps large enough for Bats, this is 1-0 in favour of Bats especially as they are nearby. Last year we saw Bats outside in our road, we have streetlight by us...

| | | Re: Mice In Roof With Clogs On - Or Wot? Hi, just off at a tangant a little but have you tried putting a sonic repelant device in your house for rodents? I don't know if they are any good but maybe someone on here does!
We also have mice (but as i have a pet rat i can not yet use one) and the poison is a big no no unless we want smells. We currently use a humane trap and the number has come down since we started blocking all holes.. haha. We will get one later to try.
This would repel bats too though... if your like me you might want to keep them! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
