| | | Re: Wild boar shot Obviously we can't have children trampled by wild boar but I always take what a read in the papers with a large pinch of salt. They could have over-reacted to the situation, the animals are generally pretty docile, usually the mother's are the ones who get a bit agressive protecting their piglets. But I'm not sure about them being in the wild yet close to people and without having natural predators a lot are going to end up being shot.

Sad to hear of one being shot, but when it comes to a choice between human safety and the shooting of an animal theres only going to be one result.
One of the drawbacks of introducing a large, sometimes aggressive animal onto a heavily populated little island which is the UK...

| | | Re: Wild boar shot Childrens safety has to come first but I have to agree with Mark in that the island is only so big and these animals will come into conflict with people. It's a tragedy for our native wildlife, they simply have nowhere left to go and eventually there will be little left as human beings completely overpopulate the country. Oh I must calm down.

Mark H | I remember a story from a few years ago, must have been when the first escapees were getting out. Some guy was chased up a tree by a wild boar, dropping his phone in the process. He was up there all night with the boar waiting for him underneath.
However a lot of people are coming into contact with wild boar without any problems - I would be a bit dubious about bumping into one!

| | | Re: Wild boar shot We own a house in the Loire valley and spend time there often.. The farm next door has a large lake that I fish on. There are boar tracks around the lake fresh every day and the forests have good populations but they are the most elusive and timid animals imaginable..I have actually seen some once in 5 years the local farmers say any sighting is rare,....
I think the boar in the article could be first generation escapees because normally they are very timid.

Andy | My friends daughter lives in France and she says the same thing.
Yes that's true, or it was ill or something.
The ones filmed in the Forest of Dean with Simon King were very nervous and illusive.
