Can someone give me advice on foxes please

At 5.30am on Sunday I looked out of my back patio doors and was taken by suprise with a lovely fox half way up the garden looking at me . Guess what, my first instinct was to open the patio doors and say hello like a fool , and sure enough he turned round and trotted back off up the garden and out of site. Well this morning at 5.40am I opened my patio curtains and there he was again, this time much more closer to the house just on the other side of the patio. Well what I would like to know is what food should I put out for him/her. Also would you put the food out at night or in the morning, it's just that if I put it out at night and it doesn't visit till morning it may attract rats.
Thankyou

Try dog biscuits or raisins. Don't use meat or this will attract rats. You could try putting the food up off the ground, but it's best to experiment.

Thanks for that Alan , I already have some raisins which I can put out tonight and get some dog biscuits tomorrow and, we we a small brick woodstore at the back of the garden which I expect where he enters the garden ,and I will put the food onto that. Thanks for the advice. Before these two sightings, I had only ever seen two foxes over the years and now I get two sightings in three days .

Yes, I agree... raisins or sultanas are a favourite. They also like Markie dog biscuits. The occasional egg is a special treat (though are they are prone to leave the shells buried in the lawn or an outside flower pot (seriously).

If they become regular visitors, small amounts of dog food are welcomed and won't be left long enough for rodents to find.

If it visits regularly it may well tolerate you being outside when it calls by, but always approach very slowly as they startle easily.

Thankyou for that Words, I think there is going to be a well fed fox, you and alan have given me plenty to go on. Could I just ask a couple things

Don't laugh, well you can if you want but do you mean a raw egg not boiled.

Also do you think he/she may visit at night or do they just normally visit in the early morning.

They seem to have a standard routine. Mostly I see them early to mid evening, but occasionally they pass through during the day.

Thanks for that Words, It is not completely dark here yet I am just going to peep through the patio door to see if there is any sign of him. I have put an egg and some raisins on the garden table because that's where I saw him first. It's also halfway up the garden so I would be able to spot him if he returned without going out outside and that will give him time to get used to visiting.

Me and my housemates often leave our leftovers outside for our fox, I think it must be the best fed fox in South west London.

Re: Can someone give me advice on foxes please

You lot always seem to have all the luck concerning foxes. If I want a pic of one, I have to crawl through metres of soaking wet grass and nettles, up hills and through woods to get near them

Good fun though, all the same

Re: Can someone give me advice on foxes please

Well this one's for Alan then... this little chap was on great form tonight. I've just attached a quick snap but for a while he was trotting up and sniffing my knee. I had the camera on the ground to get low level shots and the cheeky blighter tried to steal it.
