| | | "fake Burial" By Squirrels The sneaky rodents are PRETENDING to bury their nuts, to put would-be thieves off the scent, quite literally.
Is this proof that these animals are much more intelligent than previously thought, with a (rudimentary perhaps) understanding of the "theory of mind"?
Hmmm.... doubt it - its just that they've probably learned over time that a certain behaviour guarantees tham more food... |

| | | Re: "fake Burial" By Squirrels Hi,
Saw that, umm, they can remember up to 1000 burial places, I wouldn't think so, I have trouble remembering where I put one something yesterday.
Max.

| | | Re: "fake Burial" By Squirrels Have you seen the David Attenborough programme - Squirrels:Are They Tough Enough? - it was on BBC a while ago. It was showing various reactions but it also had quite a bit on pretending to hide nuts. They had clips of one squirrel watching another bury them and then when it had gone uncovering them and running off with the nut! The same one that ran off with the nut pretended to bury it a few times before actually doing so. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
