| | | Re: Mammal of the day My mammal of today is a sneaky little Water Shrew, almost got a brilliant pic, not there yet though so not gallery standard I am afraid. It was so active , foraging and diving around and the distances it covered in a few minutes you just would not believe! Will keep trying for that perfect shot

| | | Re: Mammal of the day: Foxes My mammal of the day is a " Fox". In fact two foxes, both in my garden, both regular visitors. I've just set up a WebCam if anyone would like to have a look at them today (in right hand column of my Nature Diary below). The female looks very pregnant, and I'm hoping she will use the den under my shed (used previous years). Any time now by the looks of her.... she's pretty tubby! Then the male will have his work cut out feeding her for a couple of months... |

| | | Re: Mammal of the day I'm assuming it was a Pipistrelle as they are our most common bat, but there was one flitting round my garden at about 6:30 this evening.
Often see them in the summer but have never seen one this early in the year before.

Kaylieigh, that does look like a Wood Mouse to me, dont forget to feed it.
I tried my hardest not to photograph deer this week end and spent some time with my new camera in an area Ive not been to before, the locals call it Watership Down. It was Full of different wildlife and countless birds some ive not seen for years.
Saw a black Rabbit (not Doug) and countless hares and this Roe buck whos antler velvet was flapping around his head.
This is known as being ''in tatters'' hence the saying.
This Hare ran 100yds across a field to tell the partridge something I couldnt tell what they were talking about as they were to far away.
Regards
Rob.

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Thanks Rob. Why do you think my Badger is pregnant. How can you tell it's a female. Am I missing something? I can't tell the difference. Hope she/he comes again... I'll be waiting with camera on tripod!

No youve missed nothing I think I mixed your Fox up with your Badger. I do think the head and neck size looks ladylike, as for the pregnancy most Badgers would have given birth by now, as you know.
Just put my ramblings down to my old age and too much fresh air.
Apologies
Rob

Mine has to be the Pipistrelle Bats I saw in my garden tonight. Still pretty early, but loving the moths that the warmer day had brought out.
