| | | Re: Mammal of the day Jamac - good you've got a fox visitor. I'm very jealous - we don't get them here as the Pheasant shooting business eradicates them. I think there are a few fox fans in the forum though.
Dave P - I don't reckon there's much down for that mouse. At least it's not aware and just carries on - like most creatures.

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Hi Pat - complete mixture - if asda have chicken reduced then Chicken, kfc and pizza on takeaway night, dog food, dog treats, eggs (favourite, but free range are bloody expensive), bread rolls anything that you could safely feed a dog. I know I'll be lambasted by this but I( reckon they will eat almost anything - vixen has two ciubs so admittedly after the cubs were around we started putting out a lot of eggs as a vet told us this was a good idea.
Cheers

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Hi Jim, I can see you're doing a great job but there is one thing I hope you don't mind me mentioning, cooked bones are a NO NO, they splinter and stick in the foxes stomach and bowel which can kill them I have a friend who works at a wildlife center and he said foxes were always being brought in with this problem, the thing is foxes don't know unfortunately what's good or bad for them and will eat anything We always found that our foxes loved raw eggs ( still give them free range for the chicken's sake ) and raw chicken wings ( their favourite ). Anyway keep up the good work, they need all the help they can get food wise because it is us humans who are taking away their natural habitat. |

| | | Re: Mammal of the day I spent quite a while tonight watching field mice clambering around on the plants in my herb garden - I was out with my moth trap, but the chilly clear weather wasn't bringing in many moths, so the mice were a welcome diversion |

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Aw, nice!
I've spent the afternoon watching hares (at a distance). Very elegant little chaps, aren't they? I've never caught more than a flash of one before, so this was a real treat. All courtsey of a brilliant, sympathetic, wildlife-loving farmer who lets people come on his land to enjoy them. |

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Sounds like you had a good time, vole-woman! It's great when farmers are as helpful as that.
I'd love to get a decent photo of a hare, but usually I just recognise them as they disappear from view! I saw one in the middle of a field the other day as I followed a path along the hedgerow, but as soon as I stopped and pointed my camera towards it, it was off like a flash! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
