The Minsmere area is the only part of the South where I've ever seen Red Deer. I've seen both types of deer at the RSPB reserve several times, but never together. |

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Rabbit again for me. Has to be my mammal of the day as it was the only mammal I saw! The first time I went to Minsmere I saw red deer and muntjac but have never seen either of them there since.
Anyway, here's the bunny...

| | Re: Mammal of the day (White Roe) Yesterday actually, a white male roe deer. I was amazed to see this beautiful deer up close, in Thetford Forest yesterday afternoon. He came running out of the forest from my right about 200 yards ahead, ran out onto a piece of open land that had been cleared of trees, he pronked off into a patch of younger fir trees. I continued up the track where he came out of the trees again about 100 yards ahead, stopped on the track sniffed a bit at the ground then went off to the left and looked like he went into the trees, as I approached the spot (that was obscured by goarse and some large pines) and came out into the open I was surprised to see him standing less than 30 yards away, we stopped and looked at each other for a few seconds, then he was off into the trees again. Amazing sight. I feel privileged to have seen such a beautiful animal. |
