Do you have them all year round ?

Rob | Thanks, Rob. The velvet does look very pretty, doesn't it.
Yes, we have them all year although sometimes we see more of them than other times. For some reason they hang about in a bigger group in February. The most interesting time is when we first see the babies in May. There were 3 last year from 2 different does.
We also get muntacs which don't appear in groups just alone, in pairs or 3 when they have a fawn.
Here is a video taken yesterday. If you look closely you will see a muntjac at the beginning. This video is taken about 15 feet from my house. Muntjac and Roe Deer video.

Great video of the deer even a Muntjac (only rumours of them down here).
Nice shot af the doe looking back at you through the kitchen window, seems to be asking for more seed.

Shirl | FORGET THE FOCUS SHIRL!
That is the best post on "mammal of the day" I've seen recently!
Great stuff! A Water Shrew swimming underwater!
Love it!

Thats a lovely shot of a Water Shrew, it shows just how busy these little chaps are, never still.
You done well to see it let alone get it on camera and 35 shots to 1 is a better ratio than my photography.
Regards
Rob

Doug | Promise I will try harder, it was very point and squirt, they are a bit too quick for me! Thanks for the comments though, until yesterday I hadn't seen a live one at all, so I am still quite excited.

Doug | Thanks Doug, you are too kind, I am still quite proud of it for my first attempt at snapping them, I think I might be going down to the canal rather a lot more now!

They are fantastic animals, so fast and they tumble and swirl around whilst diving under sediment, spectacular. Such a find!

| | | Re: Mammal of the day No Water Shrew for me today...
I've erected a woodpecker attracting post in our back garden, which has got a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers visiting regularly in the mornings.
A day off today - so I thought I'd try and get a nice shot of one.
Unfortunately, the light was TERRIBLE (it was like NIGHT at 9am), and my bridge camera doesn't do over ISO200.
Then this little blighter decided to rub salt into my wounds.
My mammal of the day (reluctantly) is this fat, cheeky Grey Squirrel...

Shirl | Cool Pic. The only sighting I've had of one was running across the road at Stodmarsh. Would love a view like that |

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Nearly got it! These Water Shrews will not stay still and don't go in the direction you expect. Of course it's not in focus, but you can see it's little feet quite well just before it dived under the water again. I am determined to get a good shot of one - you could be waiting a long time!

| | | Re: Mammal of the day The herd is getting bigger. There were 6 Roe deer in the garden today.
You may have trouble spotting the sixth near the fence.
The sixth wandered off and I decided to very carefully open the landing window to remove 2 layers of glass to try to get a better photo. You can see that 3 of them could hear my camera! The light conditions were very bad so these were taken at ISO 1600.

My Mammal of the Day was this Muntjac Deer, which I saw near Bradenham in Buckinghamshire early this afternoon. It was about 100 yards away so the photo is heavily cropped.
I see them quite often on my walks in the Chilterns and other parts of the northern Home Counties. In fact I got a fleeting glance of another one an hour or so later on. I've only had a camera with a reasonable zoom for a couple of months, so this is the best photo of a Muntjac that I've managed so far.
