Love to see them, they are so gorgeous, not seen mine in the garden recently but a house mouse has appeared! And not forgetting the rat of course.

Thanks Deer Boy, the Roe shots were taken at dusk, hence being a bit noisy.

Re: Mammal of the day

Was back out again this morning at half 4 trying for some small mammal shots in a nearby wood. The spots i`d baited had been cleared so I was more confident than usual of something showing up.
At around 5, the shrill death-cry of a Rabbit echoed round the small wood, indicating a predator had found it`s breakfast. Unfortunately I didnt see the culprit so wasnt sure what had taken the Rabbit.
Half an hour later, the Crows and Magpies went absolutely crackers further down the track, and a minute or two later 2 cracking conditioned adult Foxes came sniffing along the track towards me. I tried squeaking to bring them closer, but as I was sitting out in the open they ran towards me but soon bolted when they saw me.
Now,in our area the Foxes are usually very much nocturnal due to loads of dogwalkers etc, so seeing these 2 out in daylight gave me the impression the earth was close by. I had a quick look around the area where they`d appeared, and found a very well used Fox path so it seems the area is a regular route.I`m also convinced that the bait i`d put down, had been cleared by these two Foxes (or others) and not Voles or Mice.
After seeing those two, I couldnt concentrate on sitting it out for small mammal shots( and it was quiet anyway acitivity-wise) so I packed the gear, and set about constructing a makeshift hide from fallen timber. This area is only 5 minutes from my house, so i`ll be baiting the area daily from now on,and trying to get an hour or 2 in at dawn whenever the weathers ok, in the hope of getting some good shots.
These are the first Foxes i`ve seen local to me, and i`m very excited at the prospect of getting some good shots of them, having spent the last 18mths tracking the local Foxes without a single sighting. If their earth is close-by, which I think it will be, there`s a possibility of getting some cub shots too.Fingers crossed the baiting-up works, watch this space
