A Muntjac crossed my path in Ashridge, Herts., this afternoon. Earlier I'd seen a small group of Fallow Deer. |

| | | Re: Mammal of the day Watching + listening to the rut of the Red Deer in Richmond Park today. Lots of deep, throaty roaring which has a real primaeval sound to it.
Many of the stags now have harems, the largest of which I counted had 23 hinds. I witness some chases of stage but no confrontations. A couple of stags had their head adornments of bracken where they had been thrashing about in it + one stag seemed to be carrying a fair bit of bramble in his antlers.
Another stag had just been wallowing his pelage mud covered as were his antlers.
I did see some antler to antler confontation between 2 Fallow bucks. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
