| | | Injured Fox? Yesterday I had to drive through some villages to my destination and as usual I had my camera on the passenger seat. Just in case!
I saw this fox which I thought was old or arthritic in front of me. I managed to get the first photo as he walked away from me towards the main road.
How he got across the road without being hit, I don't know. I managed to get the second photo as he disappeared into the undergrowth.
I know the pictures aren't of quality but I was chuffed with them. This was the first time I had managed to photograph a fox and it was through the car window.
However when I downloaded the photos it looks like the fox has already suffered some injuries. There seems to be some red on his tail and hind leg. Possibly been hit by a car.
There's nothing I can do for him, but as he was still walking I hope he recovers. |

| | | Re: Injured Fox? Those are good photos given the circumstances, but it's difficult to see if there's any injury. Foxes damage their legs frequently (I'm forever seeing our local foxes carry a paw, or limping), but can recover. I seem to recall reading that a survey by Bristol University suggested that something like 70% of foxes over five years old have suffered broken bones. So if it is simply a minor injury then the fox may be ok. There are accounts of three-legged foxes surviving quite successfully after treatment.
What you can't tell by looking is whether there are any internal injuries (caused by a car). There's often little external sign, but internal injuries can be fatal.
Hopefully then simply a leg injury, rather than a blow from a car. But impossible to know for sure. |

| | | Re: Injured Fox? Nice photos of an otherwise pretty healthy looking fox. If he had encountered a car, he may have been more dazed than anything. Let's hope he's alright.
