| | | Droppings Hi, can anybody help me identify these droppings left by a nocturnal visitor to a ground bird feeder? http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ar...=&ppuser=15185
The whiter bits are dust and gravel where I gave it a bit of a poke around the yellow bits look like corn. I live in a rural area and am used to deer / rabbit / hedgehog droppings in the garden but this is new.
Thank you! |

(edit) quick question regarding these droppings, was it just these 2 you found? or were there more?

| | | Re: Droppings Hi, these were the only droppings. We had a similar - shape and volume - offering the other night aswell.
Thanks again for your help with the images. |

| | | Re: Droppings No problem , always happy to help
My initial suggestion would be Muntjac going by the fact that theyre joined and their appearance(shape/size).Muntjac also deposit droppings more individually than other deer species (ie not in "clumps") but of course it depends in which part of the country you are.If they arent present near you then that suggestion can be discounted?

| | | Re: Droppings Well its likely they were the culprits then. The obvious diet of berries in your examples may explain why they looked different to what youre used to seeing.I`m only going from the reference material I have, as we dont have Muntjac this far north,so see what other opinions you get as well as mine.

| | | Re: Droppings Hello all, the plot thickens here in chilly Oxfordshire. Last night I heard scurrying around the feeder and the scurrier scurried off underneath a nearby table. I heard more scurrying later on in the night. I assumed it was a rat but this morning I have discovered a whole load of the same droppings under the table which discounts muntjac and are not like any rat droppings |I have ever seen!
Any other ideas?? |
