Crazy Squirrels and A Herd of Deer!

I've had a great week. Walking the dog along the river, she thought she'd got a squirrel cornered, but it outwitted her (as always) and ran in our path, jumped on to a branch and did a someralt over the branch all the way round using it's arms like a gymnast it was hilarious!

The today, I came across a whole herd of deer! OK it might not be special to some people, but it really made my day. Luckily the wind was behind us so I saw them before the dog smelt them! They looked beautiful, I counted 25 one was standing the rest were catching the last of the sun...

Sounds like you've had a good week! All wildlife is special.

I thought about putting up a squirrel assault course in the garden for them but there are too many areas for them to cheat! Have you seen Daylight Robbery 2 or Squirrels are They Tough Enough? You should if you haven't - good fun!

Yeah an assault course would be so funny! I've seen them on the telly and did tell my brother to put one up (he lives in London and is always moaning about the squirrels!). I'll take a look on ebay for those squirrel films, it's his birthday and you've given me an idea!

You were very lucky to see the herd of deer, as they are such shy animals. Do you know what species of deer they were? Roe deer are small and plain-coloured, fallow deer are bigger with white spots, red deer are pony-sized. If you can tell me where you saw them, that may give me a better idea of what species they were.

Thanks for this! It's a clip from Daylight Robbery 2 but with different music! There's the squirrel assault course to Carling Black Label ad on there too somewhere!

Squirrels, yes I saw them in rural berkshire, near Wantage, I'm guessing they are roe deer? Would that be correct?

If they were, as you say, in a herd of 25, they were probably Fallow.

Daylight Robbery 2 is commercially available on video but it seems unfortunately not for Daylight Robbery 1.

Been trying for years to find someone with a home recording of DR1.

There was also much grey (and red) squirrel assault course frivolity in the Britains Cleverest Animals docu from a few years back.Inexplicably i seem to remember it was won by (i think) crows but it was obvious to me that the multi talented squirrels were way ahead of the field.
