Im sure its not only me thats stunned by the resillience of some of our wildlife, has anyone else any storys of animals or birds hanging on in there where perhaps you would think we have completely taken over.
I never fail to be amazed at what surrounds us and maybe evolution taking place in front of our very eyes. The latest heartwarming story I have encounterd has given me a perminent grin. let me explain
I remember visiting a small wood that had open country to three sides as a small boy some 40 years ago to veiw
Roe deer and countless other small animals and birds.
Whilst this wood is still there it has had a lovely motorway built along its complete south elevation, 3 large housing developments to the west, and to the east an industrial estate and yet another very large housing estate. Then an international cricket ground and a rather posh golf club was jammed in between the motorway and wood, all natural greenery now gone. Part of the planning deal was for the developer to open up the wood to the public and gut the place of natural shrub and lace it with gravel paths for dog walkers.
In recent years it has become the hang out for the hoards of local hoodies. The little darlings hold daily/nightly drinking and screaming at the top of your voice partys whilst starting huge fires from saplings, borrowed wheelie bins and the odd car.
Iv just taken a sad but nostalgic walk through this wood, the bager and
Stoat are gone and no sign of the country
Fox so why am I smilng Well unbelivablely I saw, stepping over the burnt out motor cycle in the sparse undergrowth next to the broken vodka bottle freshly chewed bark, striped holly shoots, and tiny sized Roe tracks.
Absolutley fantastic, the dogmatic little devils ! perhaps these timid little chaps are not so timid as we think. If any
Roe deer are reading this (I wouldnt put anything past them now) my sincere congratulations to you all.
