| | Otter burrows Just recently, I filmed an otter on the river. It looked to be searching for food, but I'm not quite sure. It was swimming up and down in the water. I saw and filmed the otter two days in a row. I don't know where it went after it dissapeared. Any information on where otters live or burrow would be appreciated. |

| | | Re: Otter burrows Breeding holts are usually in hollows among tree roots adjacent to deepish water if such is available. Otters will also lay up during the day in reedbeds, undercut banks, under bridges, hollows between rocks,culverts/pipes - basically anywhere they can rest up undisturbed with sufficient cover to conceal them.Theyve also been known to inhabit badger setts and rabbit warrens occasionally.

| | | Re: Otter burrows Ive watched Otters on an Island off of scotlands NW coast, they can vary in distance from the waters edge from where they make their den or holt, the ones i watched i eventually tracked back to their holt which had a slide to the front of it. best spend lots of time close to where they feed and you eventually will come up trumps bud |

| | | Re: Otter burrows I`ve seen plenty of Otters active during the day,but mostly in remote areas like the Scottish Lochs. At one local site though, frequented by dogwalkers for the majority of the day, the Otters are often seen in the middle of the day there too.
My last sighting of an Otter at another local site was at 1pm last September.
At another local reserve, where Otters show quite regularly, theyre most frequently seen through the day during periods of wet/bad weather....most other times its around dusk when they show at that particular place.
It seems to me,,thinking about it,from those i`ve seen and the reports of other peoples sightings, that stillwaters are the most likely places to see Otters during daytime.I rarely hear of Otters on rivers being seen at these times in our area.
