| | | Squirrel under the influence! We had what I can only describe as a drunken squirrel in the garden today. I’ve never experienced anything like it before, it was literally staggering all over the place.
To be honest it was quite frightening to witness the squirrel in such distress and I am hoping it was drunk from eating too many fermented berries and not suffering some sort of disease.
Is this a usual thing with squirrels this time of year, I have heard that they can get drunk on fermented berries but have never witnessed this sort of behaviour before. |

| | | Re: Squirrel under the influence! My Husband’s Grandparents told me about the hedgehogs in their garden. They would get drunk on the fallen pears, one year it got so bad they had to pick up the fallen fruit, just leaving a one on the bird table every day. The hedgehogs got so drunk they could not return to their nests. Not sure how true this is or if granddad was pulling my leg?

| | | Re: Squirrel under the influence! They can get drunk on fermented fruit/veg. There was a clip on Youtube of a squirrel who had been eating a fermented pumpkin. It was completely drunk! Was perfectly fine the next day though, doesn't seam to affect them long term in any way. Sarah P.S. If anyone's interested: YouTube - Drunk Squirrel Under the afluence of incohol!!

| | | Re: Squirrel under the influence! Thanks Sarah , I think that proves it. Very funny find, love the way he clings to the tree only to fall back...Oh the joys of drink. Do you think they get a headache like we would?
SweetRocket if your squirrel looked like that, then it was drunk.

| | | Re: Squirrel under the influence! I was just wondering the same. Do they suffer from a hangover as we do.

I'm off to the orchard. "Drunk as a squirrel" doesn't have the same ring as "drunk as a skunk" |
