| | | Nathusius' Pipistrelles Hi All,
We were checking our bat boxes yesterday and though we didn't find many bats we did come across two male and one female Nathusius' Pipistrelles, which was pretty darn good to say the least. We've had them here for a few years now but never more than two or three at a time and mostly in autumn and winter. We were the first confirmed roost site for them in Greater London and it was hoped that as we had both sexes present that we might become the second maternity site in Britain, but no luck so far.
They are still quite 'rare' but it's suspected that this is due to most handlers being unfamiliar with the species and recording them as ordinary Pips. Whenever we have the bat group in there are usually a few bat twitchers in tow to see our rare chaps. Will post a pic or two when I get hold of the photos.
Cheers,
Adam |

| | | Re: Nathusius' Pipistrelles It may be one of the species that is more common than we think, when you think about it not many people check for bat roosts, not many use a detector so many species could go missed.
I look forward to seeing the pictures |

I have bats which I only see in the summer months. I live in a quarry and have no bat boxes. What do they do in the winter? Would they live high up in the Quarry? I don't even know what kind of bats they are. Last summer I counted 11 on one balmy summers evening. |

They may also roost in your home or surrounding trees, underbark, in holes etc. Depending on species depends on where they like to roost. |
