Agree with both statements.
These little fellas come and go.We are very much in a rural area near woods with chickens, sheds full of straw and chicken food, sacks etc, bird table so we have loads of woodmice (A.K.A. Long tailed field mice) but they rarely if ever enter the house despite being abundant outside. Our Jack Russell "Oscar" had four of them today from the shed. And the other day there were five which had somehow got into the metal dustbin I keep peanuts in.
We also have a kestrel nearby that's quite keen on them. He (it is a he) leaves just the stomach on an old gatepost where he perches to eat them. This year they have multiplied beyond anything i've ever experienced before. Not just in my garden..there are loads of them out in the woods and fields and running accross the roads. Last year's mild winter? Anyone else noticed a particular abundance of mice (And rats too round the farms)?
Saw brilliant sight last week. Small hours of morning driving down lane through woods near Milland in W.Sussex. Lovely tawny owl swooped down and picked one up right in my headlights!
