| | | Field Mouse I need help with a field mouse. on saturday evening the 29th sep i was sat in the house and saw my cat (miney) walk in and she had something hanging out her mouth. so my daughters and i approached her (miney) to see what it was and she ran upstairs so we gave chase and eventually we caught her and discoverd a tiny cute little field mouse no bigger than 2. 1/2 center meters
she has big eyes and big ears. she was shaking so i put her in a shoe box as thats all i had with some water and cat food and i had some wadding left from my hamsters, she dosent seem injured but im worried she won't servive as shes so young and when i went outside i found a larger mouse dead on my door step so im assuming that must of been her mom ,
i've kept her to see how she gets on for a few days and she seems very active as my daughters have made tunnels out of toilet rolls and is eating and drinking and having lots of poops
i'm stuck what to do next as im not sure she will be old enough to servive out there being so young ... what do i do, im looking at her knowing she needs to be back in the wild but i feel heartless putting her out there, any advice will be appreciated. thanks rebecca |

| | | re: Field Mouse Theres no reason why it can't have some say mouse/hamster/gerbil food and a little dried fruit pieces (just try and get unsweetened if you can). Do warn your girls that the mouse will not be easily tamed (if at all) if you decide to keep her permanently.
Are you just going to feed her up and release it or what?
Any chance of a piccy?!?

| | | re: Field Mouse Aw poor little mousey good thing your cat dropped her in time
I have to say though - i wouldent keep her as a perminant pet, she is after all a wild animal and deserves that right as much as anything..maybe keep her till shes abit bigger and let her go fullfull her life? |

| | | re: Field Mouse hi just letting you all know shes fine and eating well and yes naturelover shes loves oats lol
been and got her a cage and i think il feed her up and see how we go, il put a piccy of her on here later on today so you can see her and guess her age. i will let her go when shes bigger but do you think shel servive the outside world after being kept at home ? my thoughts are im not sure i dont mind keeping her but yes i understand its better for her to be free than stuck in a cage for the rest of her life but would rather her live than be eaten .shes getting braver now as my daughters put a little furry teddy mouse in the cage and she stands on the top of it and looks at me shes so cute shes beautifull |

| | | re: Field Mouse aww im glad to read she is doing well
She will know how to survive, if she ends up eaten in the wild i guess its just nature...
if you have any other pet rodents in the house please keep her seperate as she could be carrying some nasty mites and diseases that can harm other rodents | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
