| | | Re: National Fox welfare society. Hi People,
I can definitely recommend them, we were fairly sure our dog had sarcoptic mange as two foxes who visited the garden were bald from the hindquarters down, they sent us free of charge their remedy, and we put down laced honey sandwiches for the foxes as they suggested, they seemed to be recovering ok until the SEB cleared their sub-station next door, we never saw the foxes after that and the two bald patches on our dog [only the size of half crowns] went.
There seemed to be a lot of sick foxes in our area last year but this year has been a much better, haven't seen one, glad to say.
Max.

| | | Re: National Fox welfare society. They do a great job, but are sometimes a bit quick to diagnose mange as I found when I enquired about what looked like ticks or a wound (very obviously wasn't mange). But if it is mange and you don't have the means to treat them other ways (eg ivermectin) then what they offer is useful. |

| | | Re: National Fox welfare society. Hi Lee, and welcome to WAB. You need Ivermectin, which you can get from a vet. It can be added to the food. See this web page:

| | | Re: National Fox welfare society. i tried desperately to get ivermectin from my vet and as it is a controlled drug it is a prescription only medication and unless you can catch the fox and actually give it the ivermectin in a controlled enviroment (wildlife hospital) then it is impossible for any vet to hand it out ....so wildlife aid in leatherhead surrey sold me the drops at 5 pounds a bottle and posted it out VERY quickly ....but i had 6 foxes with it 3 of them so very severe and it did not do anything at all and i was devestated as there was nothong else i could do ...i kept the treatement up for 4-5 months to give them a fighting chance ....plus i was buying 5lbs mince a week to make little balls in which to add the drops to ....and then scatter them all over my front lawn so all 6 would hopefully get their dose ...it was a vey expensive and time consuming job but i could not of forgiven myself if i had not tried ...the fox society took ages to get back to me but did finally send 1 bottle and asked for a donation ...bless them i think they are run off their feet with all the work they do .....so try wildlife aid if you want to try something quite quickly ....marion

Ivermectin is available to buy in pet stores or on the net without prescription, but there are certain guidelines/criteria you need to be aware of beforehand. Have a read of this thread: Mange in foxes | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
