I have only ever seen one Badger and that was a real suprise.
It was last year when I had been spending a couple of days Birdwatching around the Bempton, Flamborough Head area of Yorkshire. I had bedded down for the night in my car by the side of a field near Flamborough Head. I remember listening to a programme on the radio about Cold Play when something caught my eye. It was a very dark night but soon a badger emerged from out of the undergrowth and was snuffling away right by the car.
It didn't stay long and was soon back into the undergrowth but I doubt that I will ever forget that encounter (especially as it is the only one I have ever seen).
John | Your right John, I have been lucky in the past couple of years to see some badgers and I hope that one day I will be able to put the video I got of one on this site. I bet your badger came over to you to listen to coldplay. Whatever reason, it is something special to see them and (I feel) a privilege to see them. I grew up in the countryside and never saw even one of them. That one that past me on the road did frighten the life out of me though..............Jon |

| | | Re: Badger encounter there are alot of badgers near where I live - Berkshire - and thankfully I have seen more alive than I have dead. They are lovely animals, and I was lucky to see them too!

| | | Re: Badger encounter I once had to transport a dead Otter road casualty to a colleague. I looked at it when I reached his lab. and it appeared undamaged except for a broken jaw, but he told me that when he did the post mortem it was just like strawberry jam under the skin. In the days of MAFF they used to collect Badger carcases from roads if they were reported, to PM them and test for TB. Don't know if Defra do this now - might be worth finding out.
