| | | New hedgehog home I've been hacking shrubs to bits in the front garden today and suddenly had an inspirational idea to use the branches/twigs/leaves to make yet another hedgie home in my garden - 'au naturale'!!! With 3 hedgies in my garden last night and no takers for the flower pot yet I'll try anything to lure them into staying on my patch hehe!
So I've heaped up the branches etc. into a big mound, shoved my hand in at the bottom and with my other hand on top to squish it down and stabilise it made a large'ish hole, and then put some hay in the bottom. Piccy....
It's situated in my sons den, therefore it has to be on the perimeter or he (or his mates) will tread on it So the only problem I have now is what to use to shade the back of the mound - any ideas? When the little smoke bush and pyracantha on the other side of it grows then it won't be a problem but for now I think it needs shading somehow.
With the weather being so warm atm (I'm not complaining!) hopefully this will be a nice ventilated and cool spot for a hedgie to spend the day sleeping - in my garden! |

Ooooh! That's really spooky now that we've both had the same ideas 'twice' today!
Did you manage to catch Tiny last night? |

| | | Re: New hedgehog home Nice one Cazzie, i`ve been busy making new hedgehog houses today too....4 gallon bucket on its side, square plantpot with the bottom cut off wedged into a hole in the lid for an entrance, and a false "floor " inside with drain holes to ensure bedding stays dry.
Made 3 altogether, and once I get bedding material sorted tomorrow they`ll be placed around the garden.

Your hog house looks great.
I have been thinking of building a semi under ground hog villa.. I have some old breeze blocks and thick blocks of timber lying around in a corner of the garden.
The idea is to dig out a depression and place the blocks to make a few compartments. Then cover the blocks with wood and place a layer of soil on-top giving some insulation..
Of course i would also need to place a couple of cam's inside to capture any residents..
