| | | Strange or maybe not...? Hi all,
Just seen my hedgie out and about at 2.45pm!!! Caught sight of the prickly one in the flower border making it's way up to the arbour - strange at this time of day I thought I had an idea of where it was going, so thinking it may be hungry I rushed in, grabbed a bowl of food, rushed back out (with camera) and plonked it behind the arbour, sat down and waited. Sure enough it arrived!!!
Hmmm... what's that I smell?!?
It had a couple of mouthfulls, then unfortunately a blackbird landed on the arbour roof and let out an alarm call which promptly made the hedgie leg it Still thinking it was hungry or thirsty I beat it back to the hedgie box and put down the food and water again, but it just ignored it all and went back to bed!
So, has anyone any ideas why it was out at this time of day. I know that hedgies aren't usually so was I concerned, but after having a close look at it I can't see anything obviously wrong - can you? It's been very warm here today, perhaps it just got too hot in it's box ?(even though it's in the shade under a hedge) |

| | | Re: Strange or maybe not...? Nice pics. I have seen the odd Hedgehog out during the day. Maybe yours was a bit thirsty as already suggested, it's quite warm at the moment. We have a regular visitor but only shows him or herself at night. |

Hmmm...? that part of the garden where the hedgie box is is out of the sun from about mid-day onwards and apart from the tunnel entrance hubby drilled a 1 inch hole in the back for ventillation so I'm still perplexed!
It wasn't interested in the water either - mind you, it probably couldn't smell it lol! |

jen xxx | Yes it had a bit, just a few mouthfulls before being scared off by the blackbird. Tbh I haven't given it a name (which 'is' odd for me) but I just call it 'hedgie!' Had a sneeky look in it's box before it got back - no babies, so maybe a male? |

I thinking being that it is a shaded area maybe it got a little warm, popped out to cool down and to go to the loo.

Oh only about 20ft from it's box. It was foraging on it's way to the arbour. Mind you, it certainly could have just wanted to got to the loo lol! |

Have you missed me?? off course not, only been away two weeks.
Its good to return back and see you still got hedgehogs,
In response to your question, could it be that he was simply disturbed or that its been really dry and he has not eaten much the last couple of days?? Maybe you could give your garden a good soaking this evening??

Doubt wether it was disturbed. The only thing that often goes near it's box is a juv blackbird looking for scraps from the hedgie food. Not sure if it was really hungry either as the bowl is nearly always finished by morning, mind you, having realised there were 3 of them in the garden last night, perhaps it's not getting up early enough and having it's fair share?!? | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
