| | | Hegehog friendly cat deterrent Hi there! New to the forum and have found it very interesting. I would like to ask if anyone has experience keeping cats out of their garden using a method that doesn't put off other wildlife? I have read the many threads on keeping cats out of gardens and looked at things ranging from hi tech ultra sonic systems to lion poo. Some say they will only affect cats and not other wildlife, any of you out there know for certain?
Like many people our cul de sac is overun by cats - I assume people feel it is a safe environemnt for cats but this makes it an un safe one for the many birds that we attract to our garden. I really need something that will help keep them safe from the cats, without upsetting the squirells and hogs that enjoy our garden.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts! |

| | | Re: Hegehog friendly cat deterrent Have you got hedgies in your garden naturelover? Are they affected by the sonic device? If it scares a rat would it not scare away a squirrel too? I'm only asking as I don't honestly know!
I toyed with the idea of a sonic scarer at my last house, but in the end just didn't get round to it as the water pistol worked there too lol!
When we moved here to Yorkshire in April, there were 3 neighbours cats and 2 others that occaisionally appeared. Don't get me wrong I'm an animal lover and do like cats, just not in MY garden especially as they just come in to have a poo Now it's very rare that I see a cat actually in my garden as I scare them off by hissing, clapping my hands, chasing them or as a last resort using the water pistol (it's a big one btw lol! ) and I very rarely see a cat now... in fact I can't remember the last time I did catch one in my garden! It's funny as one of them is just the sweetest and friendliest black cats I know and I will glady pet her and give her a fuss out in the street, but she now knows not to cross the boundary into my driveway or they'll be trouble It certainly didn't take them long to catch on! |

A bigger water pistol may well be the answer! The main reason for asking about other methods is that we are out of the house for so long during the day and the cats know this and are free to attack without my husband and I being there to see them off!
We have 3 regular hedgehog visitors of an evening so we had dabbled with a sonic scarer that we could leave on during the day while we are at work then switch off of an evening.
Thanks for your replies! |

Thanks for your replies! | Hmmm... I see your problem now with being out all day Isn't there some sort of plant that cat's don't like that you could strategically put at points where the cats come in? (just thinking out loud here lol!) Is it catnip? or do they like that? Aww, it's late and my brain is shutting down
Using the sonic scarer during the day would work I reckon, at least then the hoggies will have a free run during the night Just have a water pistol handy for the weekends lol! |
