I found this today on the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society website.
WDCS has released a new report highlighting the growing dangers and threats to the UK’s whales and dolphins. The report also provides a "UK Government score sheet" which grades current Government action on a number of the most serious threats to the UK’s wildlife on a scale of 1 to 10. Many of the conclusions rate the Government’s action at just 1 out of 10.
UK Government scores 1/10 in efforts to protect UK whales and dolphins
I have been fortunate to see Bottle Nosed Dolphins in the Moray Firth in northern Scotland several times and the same species in the Thames Estuary off Canvey Island last August and just these experiences demonstrate the threats from marine traffic, jet skiers and supposed friendly cetacean watching alone.
There are also recent news stories regarding the Kent Bottle Nosed Dolphin which do not make good reading either ....
Concern for Kent’s solitary dolphin Dave the friendly dolphin is injured
There is a Marine Bill which proposes to bring in new laws to protect marine habitats and wildlife. The Wildlife Trusts, RSPB, etc. are all campaigning to see new legislation passed.
Here on WAB, Kayleigh started a thread on the RSPB's campaign. Let's make sure that WAB does it's bit to urge the Government to act to protect all marine wildlife.
