| | | Hedgehogs *cough* mating? Erm... just been out to put my sons bike away in the garage and there's two hedgies trying to get 'jiggy with it' in my flower border!
Bit late isn't it methinks? Anyone else got hedgies 'at it' too atm |

| | | Re: Hedgehogs *cough* mating? I would imagine with all this crazy weather its put their timings out, plus its not un-common for them to have a second lot which would be about right for some young autumn ones
I picked up some day old babies on Sunday some one found them whilst pulling down their old shed to have a new one built, cutest tiny prickles ever!
Ive also only just seen a hoglet in my garden, so things are much later this year again!
Sad thing is there are lots more that have been injured and hurt this year, the result many too poorley to be saved, makes me so sad it really does.
I cant say this enough, please put out even if its just a bowl of water in your back and front gardens, food if you can too. PLease PLease PLEASE be careful when you are strimming or cutting your lawns, feel first to see if there is anything there, a hog wont move out the way of danger but will curl up, many are getting hurt this way. You wont even know that you have hurt them either. If we can all do a little bit to help them, it really would make a difference to an animal that will not survive with out our help...

| | | Re: Hedgehogs *cough* mating? Hmm.. I think this 'crazy weather' has got something to do with it too Nicola. I'll have to keep my eye out for late hoglets here methinks!
I also wholeheartedly agree with Nicola on the 'watch out for hedgies' when gardening message. Doesn't take 2 mins to have a quick poke and prod about in the long grass, under bushes, hedges etc. where they may have curled up for a daytime snooze, or even frogs etc. for that matter The horror of injuring a defenseless creature when just doing some chores doesn't bear thinking about... |

| | | Re: Hedgehogs *cough* mating? It's been a while since I've heard from the hedgehogs that were in my garden earlier this year. I always leave a bowl of water out and I bought them some special food from Spike's World (it's made so that birds & cats don't eat it - yummy!)
Hopefully mine are just having a long snooze - or they're visiting the neighbours.
And I totally agree with Cazzie - the thought of harming anything makes me shiver - I even avoid stepping on ants! |

I've since found a brilliant specially made hedgie food and can PM you the details of where to get it if you're interested Purplepixii?
Meles meles - well I hope the numbers don't drop either! I'm fortunate enough to have between 1-3 hedgies visiting my garden each night atm so I should count myself lucky methinks! |

You constantly prove your self to be more lucky,
Go girl, you continue. We all love a challenge.
Actualy we have known that there is a hog close to my mums,
We always see signs that its been there, but never seen the hog itself.
Untill late last night, I cant be sure cos it was really dark but am sure it crossed my path. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
