I know grey squirrels are an introduced species but I've never known when they were introduced - could anyone tell me?

| | | Re: Grey Squirrel Cull Poll! given that all previous attempts have failed miserably including bounties for pelts I would say no and spend the money on preserving areas for red squirrels such as islands off the mainland where there are no greys

" It was first recorded in Britain in the 1820s, but systematic introduction began in 1876 when Mr T. V. Brocklehurst liberated a pair in Cheshire. More introductions followed sporadically, and the history of one of those shows how quickly the new arrivals colonised. A pair were released at Loch Long in 1892 and within 25 years grey squirrels had spread to the eastern side of Loch Lomond and into Stirlingshire - an area of 300 square miles!
There was a further wave of introductions in the first three decades of this century, "

| | | Re: Grey Squirrel Cull Poll! I have a nest in my garden and there are now 6 young ones. My garden has been distroyed and the birds nests raided. What worries me is are the others going to nest in the other trees or move away. I have asked the council to do something about them, but nothing has been done. I vote YES. |
