| | | Re: Mange in foxes I was ringing round to try to get some Stronghold but was told it was not sent out.
I spoke to a wildlife centre in CHiselhurst, Kent (Willow Wildlife Rescue) and he recommended another homeopathic treatment Psorinum - which he said was better than the sulphur based one that is currently being sent out.
3 days on this he says should sort it. A stronger dosage than the sulphur he says.
So obviously I got some, he delivered within the hour, I donated - and now have given my fox the 3 doses stated (last dose was yesterday).
He also gave me some Arnica tablets (for 7 days) to help with his limp which he thinks might be rheumatism or an old injury. He came into the garden and saw the fox (albeit for seconds as once he realised I was not alone he was gone again).
So just wondered is it Psorinum you are talking about ?

Got some Stronghold in the post today (10-20kg dogs) & mixed 1 tube with enough honey for about 5 sarnies; first dose went out tonight. |

Hi Sumbody.
Definitely not Psorinum, or anything homeopathic; I didn't recognise the name from anything I looked up on the net; just that it's a prescription drug specifically for mange/scabies.
You can't get Stronghold in the UK without a prescription; we got ours from a Spanish site; pricey, especially wth postage, but I'm in a hurry; I think we wasted a month with the homeopathic meds; we've just seen their condition get worse.
We're not anti-homeopathy btw; just seems to be having no effect in this case. |

We rang and spoke to someone who gave us that info; I did ask at the beginning what med it was & only remember it started with P; when we asked at the end of the conversation if she could spell the name she wouldn't; she asked us why we wanted to know; I said so we could look it up on the internet; she said she could give us any info we needed, but didn't repeat the name; don't know why she was being so cagey.
We mentioned about giving Stronghold orally & she seemed surprised, said she didn't think the manufacturers would approve of it being used in this way. South Essex Wildlife Hospital « South Essex Wildlife Hospital

| | Re: Mange in foxes Hi,
I'm currently studying an MA in Wildlife Documentary and for my major project I'm focusing on the affect Sarcoptes scabiei/ mange has on foxes. I'm currently looking for a fox suffering from mange and an urban fox den with cubs around the Manchester/Cheshire area. My documentary aims to show the beauty of foxes.
I would be really grateful for any help you can give me, Cheers, Jo

(the last post appears to be 2010) | I've just done a quick search and it doesn't look like there's anything more up-to-date on here, but there are a number of animal carers active on the boards at the moment. Was there something in particular you were looking for?
Cheers,
Marc.
p.s. My website has info on mange in foxes, which might be of some use. |

| | | Re: Mange in foxes Thank You for Welcoming me. Its a godsend to find WAB -full of Like minded people,I have read your page on Red Fox Mange and it answers 98% of my questions. I live in a rural town so we have wild and semi urban foxes but we dont have a 'wildlife supporters' group or website as such yet. |

| | | Re: Mange in foxes I hope it's ok to bump up an old thread but I discovered it whilst using Google! Since last April we have had three foxes visit our garden (urban area but surrounding by a small nature reserve/woodland).
I hadn't seen the foxes for some time until 10 days or so ago when one re-appeared in the garden. He is clearly affected by Mange. I then stumbled across the NFWS website and we are now in possession of a bottle of their Mange treatment. I've been putting out honey sandwiches twice a day (lunchtime and early evening) - the fox seems to visit during late morning/lunchtime. I put out extra in the evening because I have no idea what is eating the sandwiches and wanted to increase our chances of the fox getting the medicine.
Low and behold three foxes were in the garden this morning, 1 large male and 2 smaller (vixens maybe). All three have Mange (unsurprising, I guess). Can any suggest how many sandwiches I should put out? I also put out some apple tonight - is there anything I can put out for them to eat in the hope of perhaps improving their general condition?
Many thanks. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
